Bar Foundation

The Baldwin County Bar Foundation, Inc. was formed in 2006. Its general purposes are to receive and administer funds for charitable, literary or educational activities that will promote the advancement or well-being of mankind, either directly or indirectly through its cooperation with public or private agencies having like purposes or objects, including, but not limited to:

A. To promote and improve the study of law and research therein, the diffusion of knowledge thereof, and the continuing education of lawyers.

B. To promote improvements in the administration of justice and the uniformity of judicial proceedings and decisions.

C. To elevate the ethical standards of the bench and bar, and to encourage compliance with these standards. 

D. To improve relations between the members of the legal profession, the judiciary and the public.

E. To receive, aid and assist, as charitable acts, deserving lawyers who shall be ill, incapacitated or superannuated and in need of aid.

F. To provide programs for substance abuse education for lawyers.

G. To provide resources for the furtherance of activities of the Baldwin County Bar Foundation that are consistent with the purposes of the Corporation.

H. To advance the science of jurisprudence.

I. To provide funds for and promote any charitable undertaking deemed beneficial for the benefit of the community and recognized as exempt from federal taxation under section 501 (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

J. To solicit, collect, accumulate, administer and disburse funds and property in such a manner as will, in the sole discretion of the board of directors, most effectively operate to further the charitable, literary or educational purposes of the corporation, either directly or by contributions to any organization described in section 501 (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, with the exception of organizations testing for public safety.

K. To do any or all of the things herein above set forth, and all things usual, necessary or proper in furtherance of or incidental to said purposes.

Grants

The application deadline is August 31 annually. It is the policy of the Baldwin County Bar Foundation, Inc. to award grants, make gifts, or otherwise to support projects only for the following purposes:

A. To provide legal aid to low-income residents in Baldwin County,

B. To provide for the administration of justice in Baldwin County,

C. To provide law-related educational programs to the public in Baldwin County,

D. To help maintain the Baldwin County Law Library; and

E. To provide support for any qualifying charitable organization consistent with the demands of section 501(c)(3) which also promotes the image of the profession.

Grant Policy and Criteria
